Straight answers to the questions we get asked most across Knutsford, Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Wilmslow, Northwich and surrounding Cheshire areas.
General Questions
Do I need planning permission for a fence in Cheshire?
Usually not. Most garden fences up to 2 metres high don’t need planning permission. You may need approval if the fence borders a road or footpath, or if your property is listed or in a conservation area. If you’re unsure, check with your local council.
How long does it take to fit a new fence?
Yes we do! We offer a 2 year labour warranty with all of our fence and gate installations if you fill out our feedback form we send with your invoice. This is double what our competitors offer!
Do you offer free quotes in Knutsford, Altrincham and Wilmslow?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes across Knutsford, Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Wilmslow, Northwich and nearby Cheshire villages.
Are you insured and qualified?
Yes. We’re fully insured for public and employer’s liability and experienced in domestic and commercial fencing.
Materials and Quality
What materials do you use?
We use premium, pressure-treated timber from trusted UK suppliers. We can also fit concrete, galvanised steel or composite posts for maximum durability.
Will wooden posts rot? Can I choose concrete or steel instead?
We use premium, pressure-treated timber from trusted UK suppliers. We can also fit concrete, galvanised steel or composite posts for maximum durability.
Why do some wooden fences twist or warp?
Timber naturally expands and contracts with heat and moisture. Minor movement like bowing or warping and cracks are normal and not a defect.
Before and During Installation
What should I do before installation day?
Ensure clear access, move furniture/ornaments, let us know about underground services and, if possible, provide power and water. We’ll confirm everything before we arrive.
What if there are plants or trees along the fence line?
Ensure clear access, move furniture/ornaments, let us know about underground services and, if possible, provide power and water. We’ll confirm everything before we arrive.
Can you remove my old fence and tidy up?
Yes. We can include removal and responsible disposal of your old fence and leave the site tidy.
Aftercare and Warranty
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes, all our installations come with a 24-month labour warranty. This is twice as long as many of our competitors (terms apply).
What’s covered under the warranty?
Workmanship and structural integrity. Natural timber movement, storm damage and neglect are excluded.
I’ve spotted a problem - what should I do?
Contact us with a couple of photos if possible. We’ll review promptly and advise next steps.
Payments and Booking
How does your payment process work?
We sometimes take a small deposit to secure your booking depending on the job size and type of materials required, followed by remaining balance on completion. Some larger projects may require staged payments during the job. We’ll outline everything with you beforehand so there are no surprises.
How far in advance should I book?
Spring and summer fill quickly – 4–6 weeks’ notice is ideal.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfer, cheque and debit & credit card payments.
Extra Questions
Can you install gates too?
Yes, we can install timber, composite, aluminium or metal gates to match your fence. We do side gates and entrance gates.
Do you only work in Cheshire?
Our main areas include Knutsford, Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Wilmslow, Northwich, and nearby villages, but we do travel further across Cheshire and even much further afield across the UK for larger projects.
