Acoustic fencing is built to reduce the noise coming into your garden. That might be a busy road, a railway line, a school playground or just a noisy neighbour. A normal fence panel does very little for noise. An acoustic fence uses dense boards with no gaps, so sound is reflected and absorbed rather than passing straight through. Done properly, it can turn a garden you avoid into one you actually sit in.

Options & styles
We install two systems. Our acoustic fencing is a horizontal tongue and groove system, built to the manufacturer’s specification with sealed joints throughout. Our noise reduction fencing is the more affordable option. It is a vertical system with the boards butted tightly together, and it looks much like a high quality closeboard fence. Both can be built to whatever height your situation needs. If you want to know exactly what height you need and how much difference it will make, we recommend getting a report from a sound engineer. They can advise on the likely noise reduction and the fence height needed to achieve it.
Why Tatton Fencing
Acoustic fencing only works if the joints are sealed and the groundwork is solid, so the installation matters as much as the product. We finish every job to the standard we would want at our own homes, and all our work comes with a 2-year workmanship guarantee.
Your questions answered
We cannot promise a figure, because it depends on where the noise is coming from, how high the fence is and the shape of your garden. We can send you the manufacturer’s specifications showing the decibel ratings if you would like them. For a proper answer, a sound engineer’s report is the place to start, and we are happy to work with one.
Any fence might need planning permission, so we always suggest checking with your local council. As a rough guide, garden boundary fences up to 2m, or 1m where they face a highway, do not usually need permission. The council has the final say.
No. It looks like a good quality garden fence. Our noise reduction system in particular looks very similar to a premium closeboard fence. Most people would not know it was there to block noise.
Timber is a living material, and no two fences or gates are quite the same. Here’s what to expect as yours settles in.
